Industrial designers work on the form and functional aspects of products with different levels of complexities. Whether it be a teacup or automobile, they consider several factors such as the relationship of the product with users and the environment, and material requirements of production.
Industrial design as a profession grew out of the Industrial Revolution beginning from the eighteenth century. The continuous, multi-layered changes in the production and consumption cultures have required industrial design to be a dynamic practice, the scope of which is constantly redefined. Industrial designers today work in diverse industries, being responsible from the planning and implementation of not only physical products, but also systems and services.
Industrial designers are expected to be informed about, aware of and responsible from many issues such as form, function, usability, material and production; the interaction between the end products, environment and culture; and the relationship of design practice with the ongoing technological and economic developments. Our mission at TEDU ID is to provide an applied and research-focused teaching environment, in order to fully equip our students for such multidimensional and interdisciplinary requirements of the professional life.
